VIDEO-ESSAY + PARTICIPATORY EXHIBITION

BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA, 2015-2019

+ INFO

SHIBARI

Shibari is a traditional form of artistic bondage that originated in Japan. Fine pieces of rope are used to create complex geometric patterns that characterize this intense and careful practice.

In this video-essay, I recorded a private and intimate event, in a place without glamour or public. The objective is not to produce an aestheticized performance for mass consumption, nor to be included in the pantheon of post-pornography. Rather, the intention is to explore the affective language of bondage and ropes.

The video-essay is then exhibited in different individual and group contexts to trigger reflections on desire, intimacy, consensus, and pleasure. The proposal is to retrace the cultural scaffolding of our sexual and affective expectations, while decentering the hegemonic regimes of representation of sexuality and eroticism through open conversation and collective debate.
